Introduction

Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming expressed his excitement and pride as his cousin, Chen Meng, claimed victory in the women’s table tennis final at the Paris Olympics. To celebrate her Olympic achievement, Huang sent out 100 digital red packets through the popular messaging platform WeChat.

Olympic Victory Celebration

Chen Meng’s triumph came after a tough match against her teammate Sun Yingsha on August 3, which ended in a 4-2 score. Following her victory, the 47-year-old actor Huang took to WeChat to share his joy by sending digital red packets, a traditional Chinese way to share blessings and congratulations. WeChat, widely used in China, comes with features such as virtual wallet and payment capabilities.

Public Reaction and Comments

Huang Xiaoming’s celebratory act was appreciated by many. A screenshot from a WeChat group chat later appeared on Weibo, showing Huang humorously mentioning that he received more congratulatory messages for Chen’s win than for his own acting successes. He also praised both athletes on Weibo, writing, “Thanks to the two athletes for giving us such an exciting match. It made me lose my breath. These girls are the best.”

A Family of Achievements

Chen Meng’s recent victory positions her as the third woman in history to secure back-to-back Olympic gold medals in table tennis, following her previous victory at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Chen joined the provincial team at age nine and the national team at thirteen, showcasing her dedication and talent from a young age. On the other hand, Huang Xiaoming is recognized as one of China’s most influential actors with notable roles in films and series such as “The Return of the Condor Heroes,” “Shanghai Bund,” and “Summer’s Desire.”
