Wat Arun, or the Temple of Dawn, ranks as the second most iconic landmark in Bangkok. Located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in central Bangkok, this temple is a stunning architectural marvel named after Arun, the Indian god of dawn.

The Magnificent Central Prang

The temple’s central prang, or tower, stands at an impressive height of approximately 82 meters, making it the tallest structure in Bangkok. This towering masterpiece is surrounded by four smaller prangs, all adorned with intricate porcelain mosaics and seashell fragments which create a shimmering, iridescent effect when illuminated by the rising sun.

Intricate Tile Work and Floral Patterns

Visitors to Wat Arun can appreciate the exquisitely detailed tiles, which are decorated with colorful floral patterns. Up close, the craftsmanship and artistry of these designs are truly breathtaking, showcasing a mix of aesthetics and spirituality that is unique to Thai culture.

Visitor Information

Wat Arun is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., inviting tourists and worshippers alike to marvel at its beauty. Tickets are reasonably priced at 50 baht. The temple stands just across the river from Wat Pho, making it convenient for visitors to explore both historical sites in a single trip.
