Kim Do Yeon may be heading back to the silver screen with a powerful new role. According to reports on July 23, the actress and idol has been offered the lead part in the upcoming Korean film Dora and is currently reviewing the offer.
The film is set in a quiet seaside village and centers on themes of female solidarity and emotional healing. At its heart is the story of a young woman bearing both visible and invisible scars, who begins to heal after encountering another woman who helps her find peace and strength.
Japanese actress Ando Sakura is also in talks to join the cast. If confirmed, Dora would mark her first appearance in a Korean production, creating buzz around the film’s cross-cultural collaboration. Reports suggest Ando Sakura would play the role of the woman who becomes a key figure in Dora’s emotional recovery.
The film’s title is inspired by Sigmund Freud’s “Dora case”, a real-life analysis he published in 1905 about an 18-year-old patient with psychosomatic symptoms—adding a psychological layer to the upcoming movie.
Production for Dora is scheduled to begin in August 2025, with casting decisions expected soon.
