Choi Woo Shik may soon be returning to the small screen in a new period fantasy romance based on a beloved webtoon.

🎬 A New Drama Offer on the Horizon

His agency, FABLE COMPANY, confirmed the news, stating,

“Choi Woo Shik has received an offer for ‘Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid’ and is currently reviewing it.”

📖 The Story: The Little Mermaid Reimagined in 1926

Winner of the Presidential Award at the 2021 Korea Content Awards, the webtoon offers a unique reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid”, set against the dramatic backdrop of 1926 Gyeongseong (modern-day Seoul) during the Japanese occupation.

The story follows Kang Ui Hyeon, a man who sacrifices everything for his country, and Su A, a 17-year-old girl who risks her life to protect him.

🔍 Choi Woo Shik’s Potential Role: A Rebel in Disguise

If he accepts, Choi Woo Shik will take on the role of Kang Ui Hyeon, a multi-talented independence activist fluent in Korean, Japanese, and English. By day, he runs a photo studio, but behind the scenes, he’s deeply involved in espionage photography and codebreaking.

Though he studied law at Tokyo University under the influence of his pro-Japanese judge father, Kang Ui Hyeon is ashamed of his family’s past. His dream? To become a judge himself, and atone for his father’s sins.

His relationship with Su A, a servant in a pro-Japanese household, becomes the heart of this emotional and politically charged tale.

📺 What’s Next for Choi Woo Shik?

While fans wait for casting confirmation, Choi Woo Shik is also preparing for the premiere of his upcoming SBS drama “Would You Marry Me” (literal title), adding to the excitement surrounding his already-busy 2025 lineup.
