Anticipation is rising as SBS unveils its upcoming Friday-Saturday drama, “Mantis: A Killer’s Outing,” set to premiere on September 5 at 9:50 PM.
This high-density crime thriller centers on a chilling premise: 20 years after a brutal serial killer known as the “Mantis” is captured, copycat murders begin to emerge. In an unexpected twist, a detective finds himself forced into a joint investigation with the very woman he has spent his life hating—his mother, who was the infamous killer.
The recently revealed script reading session gave audiences a first taste of the drama’s intensity. Go Hyun-jung, playing the enigmatic and terrifying serial killer Jung Yi-shin, captivated with a presence that was both graceful and eerie. Opposite her, Jang Dong-yoon portrayed Cha Soo-yeol, a detective torn between duty and deeply buried trauma. His emotional range, from cold determination to raw vulnerability, added compelling depth to the story.
The chemistry between the two leads was palpable—an electrifying tension that promises to be a highlight of the show. Their mother-son relationship, far from ordinary, defies the conventions of love and duty, opening a psychological battlefield that viewers won’t be able to look away from.
Supporting the duo are Cho Seong-ha as Choi Joong-ho, head of the Violent Crimes Unit, and Lee El as Kim Na-hee, a fellow detective. Their seasoned performances are set to anchor the drama with both balance and weight.
With passionate energy from both cast and crew, “Mantis: A Killer’s Outing” is shaping up to be one of the fall season’s most gripping series.
