The highly anticipated film “Kaede”, starring Fukushi Sota and Fukuhara Haruka, has just released its official trailer. Alongside the leads, the cast now includes Miyazawa Hio, Ishii Anna, and Miyachika Kaito from Travis Japan, adding fresh faces to the story.
This movie is inspired by the song “Kaede” from the 1998 album Fake Fur by the band Spitz, which also serves as the film’s theme song. The project is directed by Isao Yukisada, known for his work on titles such as Sekai no Chushin de, Ai wo Ai wo Sasakebu, Kyuso wa Cheese no Yume wo Miru, Revolver Lily, and Narratage. The film explores the journey of two characters who have lost their loved ones and are trying to move forward, highlighting themes like “precious memories,” “beautiful transformation,” and “patience.”

The story follows Ryo (played by Fukushi Sota), who loses his twin brother Megumi (also played by Fukushi) in a tragic accident in New Zealand. Forced into a difficult position, Ryo pretends to be Megumi in front of Megumi’s girlfriend, Ako (Fukuhara Haruka). Kajino (Miyazawa Hio), the cousins’ close friend, is the only person who knows the truth and quietly watches over Ryo. However, Hiyori (Ishii Anna), Ryo’s junior colleague and Ako’s confidante, begins to feel uneasy about the situation. Living with two identities leaves Ryo confused, but he finds himself drawn to Ako’s bright and sincere nature. Before long, Ako becomes the most important person in Ryo’s life, though he remains unable to reveal his secret to her.
“Kaede” is scheduled to premiere on December 19, promising a touching story about love, loss, and personal growth.
