A Confirmation of Ahreum’s Suspended Sentence
The Suwon District Court’s Ansan branch has confirmed the suspended prison sentence for Ahreum, a former member of the girl group T-ara. The ruling, delivered on October 9, concluded that she will serve eight months in prison, suspended for two years, due to serious charges of child abuse and defamation.

Background of the Case
The backdrop of this case traces back to March of the previous year when Ahreum publicly accused her ex-husband of child abuse and domestic violence on social media platforms. This accusation led to significant turmoil; following the allegations, Ahreum experienced a crisis and attempted suicide, necessitating hospitalization. Investigations concluded with her ex-husband being found not guilty of the child abuse charges.
Legal Developments and Sentencing
In a series of legal actions, following Ahreum’s accusations, her ex-husband initiated criminal complaints against her and her mother for child abuse and allegedly abducting a minor. Subsequently, a defamation lawsuit was filed in response to her social media postings. Additionally, Ahreum’s mother received a separate sentence of four months in prison, suspended for a year, related to her role in the abduction case. Despite Ahreum appealing the initial ruling delivered in January, the court dismissed her appeal, thereby finalizing her sentence. Moreover, Ahreum has been mandated to complete 40 hours of child abuse prevention education, emphasizing the gravity of her actions.
