The story follows Shinomiya Maiko (Kuroshima), who grew up in a complicated family environment but strives to meet the expectations of her aunt while pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher. The plot takes a turn when one of her students, Saeki Akiko (Yamazaki), receives a letter from “herself 20 years in the future.” Through the letter, Akiko finds the strength to endure her father’s death and her lonely days with her withdrawn mother. However, she faces harassment and abuse from her mother’s lover, along with a shocking truth that pushes her to the edge of despair. In this dire moment, Akiko devises a forbidden plan alongside Arisa, her only friend she feels connected to. Maiko must step in and find a way to reach Akiko before it’s too late.

Mirai is scheduled for release in May 2026.
