The upcoming television drama Mirai no Musuko, starring Shida Mirai, has recently announced three principal male cast members: Shiono Akihisa, Hyodo Katsumi, and Kotaki Nozomu (WEST.).

Based on the manga by Aso Kumiko and Kuromugi Hajime—who also worked on the screenplay for Marumo no Okite—the story explores a heartfelt tale of love across time. It follows a woman approaching 30, who has reached a crossroads in both her dreams and career, when a young boy suddenly appears claiming to be her son from the future. Child actor Amano Yu was selected for the role of Shiokawa Sota from around 200 auditioning boys.

The drama centers on Shiokawa Mirai (Shida), a 28-year-old woman living what could be described as a “three-no’s” life: no stable job, no savings, and no boyfriend. She has long dreamt of becoming an actress but has instead been working part-time, struggling to balance her ambitions with reality. Everything changes when her future son, Shiokawa Sota (Amano), unexpectedly arrives from the future.
Mirai no Musuko is set to premiere in January 2026 and will air weekly on Tuesdays at 10:00 PM.
