A powerful ensemble cast—Lee Hyun Wook, Jang Hyuk, Kim Kang Woo, Park Sung Woong, Jung Woong In, and Cho Seong Ha—has been confirmed for the upcoming historical epic “Munmu,” a drama inspired by the 30th ruler of Silla. Helmed by director Kim Yeong Jo of Hwarang, the series revisits the turbulent era in which the small kingdom of Silla fought against Goguryeo, Baekje, and China’s Tang dynasty to ultimately unify the Three Kingdoms.

The drama traces a world shaped by political ambition, war, and sacrifice. Lee Hyun Wook takes on the role of Kim Pom Min, the eldest son of Kim Chun Chu and nephew of Kim Yu Sin. Proud, strategic, and unyielding, he is a leader who endures public humiliation when necessary for the greater good. On battlefields steeped in blood and despair, he ultimately rises as the king who completes unification.
Jang Hyuk plays Yeon Gaesomun, the formidable war god of Goguryeo. A brilliant yet ruthless dictator, he leads his kingdom to victory with unmatched strength and vision, though his oppressive rule casts uncertainty over Goguryeo’s future. Kim Kang Woo appears as Kim Chun Chu, a charismatic yet deeply ambitious Silla king whose diplomacy and calculated strategies help him secure power while walking the delicate line between legitimacy and survival.
Park Sung Woong portrays Kim Yu Sin, the military backbone of Silla, a warrior whose blade shifts the kingdom’s destiny during its darkest era. Despite strict discipline, he remains attentive to the people’s suffering and stands as the unwavering support for Kim Chun Chu and Kim Pom Min. Jung Woong In joins as Kim Jin Ju, a realist and hidden force in the Silla court, whose pragmatic nature places him at odds with the royal lineage while revealing unexpected layers of humanity.
Jo Seong Ha plays Go Geon Mu, a celebrated Goguryeo war hero who becomes king and attempts to lead his people toward peace. Yet before Yeon Gaesomun’s plotted assassination unfolds, Go Geon Mu becomes a casualty of a military coup, reflecting the unforgiving nature of the era.
With its rich geopolitical backdrop, layered character dynamics, and commanding cast, “Munmu” promises to deliver a sweeping portrayal of ambition, war, and unity. The drama is slated to premiere in 2026, adding another highly anticipated title to the historical genre.
