Actress Sun Li recently shared her views on script development and character building in a new interview, emphasizing that a strong screenplay should not focus solely on one actor. She noted that compelling dramas rely on multiple interconnected character arcs rather than a single-person showcase. “If a script highlights only me, that’s not right,” she said, adding that today’s audiences have high expectations and that a one-person performance alone cannot sustain an entire series.

Sun Li explained that she often offers feedback to the production team regarding other key characters, hoping that all narrative threads receive proper development. She likened a high-quality drama to an intricate web, “where every strand represents a character, and it requires everyone’s effort.”

Regarding her own creative approach, Sun Li expressed her long-standing desire for each character she portrays to be free of her personal imprint. “Each role should remove the shadow of ‘Sun Li,’” she said. “Actors need to keep bringing fresh elements to the audience, and I look forward to showing different versions of myself through different roles.”

Industry analysts note that Sun Li’s comments reflect a broader shift in Chinese television toward ensemble storytelling and tighter script craftsmanship, highlighting both her professional maturity and keen insight into audience expectations.
