Sydney has been identified as the city with the world’s most consistent “perfect breeze,” according to a recent study released by medical travel insurance provider AllClear. The research applies a scientific formula designed to assess how comfortable natural breezes feel to the human body.

The study aims to highlight destinations where wind conditions help travelers stay refreshed rather than feeling hot or sticky, particularly in warmer climates. Sydney ranked first globally with a score of 96.4 out of 100, a result attributed to its warm temperatures and coastal setting.

To develop the findings, AllClear worked with Jim N. R. Dale, a former Royal Navy meteorologist and the founder of British Weather Services. The research identified four key variables that define an ideal breeze: temperature, humidity, wind speed, and wind direction. When balanced correctly, these elements produce a cooling yet gentle airflow.

For coastal locations, the optimal conditions include temperatures between 23 and 29°C, wind speeds of 10 to 15 miles per hour, humidity levels of 65 to 70 percent, and offshore wind directions that carry cooler air from the sea. Inland locations require slightly higher temperatures, lower humidity, and winds typically coming from northern or western directions.

Following Sydney, Rio de Janeiro ranked second with a score of 93.1, benefiting from Atlantic Ocean winds. Paphos, Cyprus, placed third with 91.4, known for its year-round Mediterranean breezes. Several inland cities, including Zurich and Amsterdam, also appeared in the top 15.

AllClear noted that while sunshine often dominates travel planning, breeze conditions can significantly influence comfort levels, particularly for older travelers or those with medical concerns.
