The Japanese film “#Kakusan,” starring Narita Ryo and featuring Sawajiri Erika in a pivotal role, has officially released its first trailer, along with new details about the project. Set against a contemporary social backdrop, the film explores how personal grief can collide with public discourse and spiral into collective controversy.

The story unfolds in a small town, centering on Asaoka Shinji (played by Narita Ryo), a caregiver consumed by grief and doubt after his wife dies shortly after receiving a vaccine. Convinced that medical negligence is to blame, Shinji relentlessly appeals against the doctor, holding up his late wife’s portrait as a symbol of his protest. As the media begins to cover his case, he is gradually framed as an icon of devoted marital love, and before long, his image is appropriated as a symbol within vaccine-related debates.

As public attention intensifies, Shinji’s love and obsession with his deceased wife deepen, while his social isolation grows and his grip on reason slowly unravels. Rather than presenting a one-sided argument, the film examines the fragile boundary between personal emotion, public opinion, and the viral spread of information in modern society.

Supporting cast members include Fuchikami Yasushi, Yamaya Kasumi, and Akama Mariko. The theme song, “sunrise,” is a newly written track by Noda Emi, adding emotional resonance to the film’s narrative.

“#Kakusan” is scheduled for nationwide release in Japan on February 27.
