On January 8, 2026, Liu Yinuo addressed the public via social media, claiming she had been “set up” and “wrongly accused,” and stating that she had discovered false and defamatory content targeting her across multiple platforms. She said her team is collecting evidence and will pursue legal remedies, citing alleged tactics such as manipulated images, edited clips, and fabricated materials. Liu added that she is prepared to take legal responsibility for her statements and welcomes judicial review if any claims are found to be untrue.

Her statement drew renewed attention to an earlier court ruling issued in December. In that case, the court found that Liu had fabricated allegations during a livestream, used insulting language, and incited online harassment against a former classmate, constituting reputational infringement. The judgment ordered a public apology and compensation for emotional distress and legal costs. As of January 8, Liu has paid the compensation but has not issued the required public apology, prompting the other party to consider enforcement measures. Liu responded by reiterating that “the truth will speak for itself,” and referenced other reputation-rights cases to argue that a favorable ruling does not necessarily equate to factual truth.

Adding another layer to the controversy, Liu recently acknowledged that she had been in a relationship with actor Tan Jianci and that the two have since broken up. She explained that her intention was to document a personal experience and avoid being labeled by past rumors, but apologized after the disclosure escalated into widespread debate.

The timing has further fueled speculation, as Liu’s new drama Zha Xi is scheduled to premiere on January 9. With reputational disputes and relationship discussions unfolding during the promotional period, some observers have questioned whether the situation reflects a mismanaged publicity strategy. Although Liu previously said she would offer a “final response” to preserve dignity, she has not directly addressed the specifics of the court judgment. While some contentious posts have been deleted, public criticism remains visible in her comment sections.

As the situation involves active legal considerations, personal statements, and intense public scrutiny, further developments will likely depend on subsequent legal actions and official responses from the parties involved.
