Exclusive Contract to End in 2025 as She Prepares for a New Chapter

On January 12, SM Entertainment announced that singer BoA will conclude her exclusive contract with the agency on December 31, 2025, bringing an end to a 25-year partnership that has been one of the most iconic relationships in K-pop history.

In its official statement, SM Entertainment first expressed sincere gratitude to Jumping BoA, BoA’s official fan club, and to fans who have supported her throughout her career. The agency explained that, after extensive and thoughtful discussions with BoA, both parties mutually agreed to conclude their long-standing journey together once the current contract expires.

BoA debuted in 2000 at the age of 13 and has since celebrated her 25th debut anniversary. In the statement, SM Entertainment described her as a central figure in the expansion of the Korean Wave across Asia and beyond, referring to her as the “Star of Asia” and a pioneer of K-pop’s global reach. The company noted that her achievements not only reshaped the history of Korean popular music but also established her as a role model for countless younger artists during the rise of K-pop worldwide.

Highlighting her role as a trailblazer, SM Entertainment praised BoA’s relentless dedication and passion, which resulted in remarkable accomplishments and records that remain difficult to surpass. From her groundbreaking debut to her current status as a top artist and producer, the agency reflected on every stage of her growth, stating that it was a true honor to accompany her throughout her journey.

Although their exclusive contract is coming to an end, SM Entertainment emphasized that it will continue to support BoA as she pursues new activities and challenges, expressing hope that she will shine even brighter in the future. The company also extended its support and best wishes to Kwon BoA as an individual, beyond her identity as an artist.

Following the announcement, BoA shared her own thoughts on Instagram, writing that she leaves without regrets after giving and receiving wholeheartedly. She expressed gratitude for the time spent with SM Entertainment and conveyed her continued support for the company moving forward.

To commemorate their 25 years together, SM Entertainment also released a tribute video highlighting BoA’s journey. As this chapter comes to a close, attention now turns to the next stage of BoA’s career and the new path she will carve out.
