Born in 1997 in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, Zhang Linghe did not originally plan to enter the entertainment industry. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a scientist and contributing to society through technical expertise. With strong academic performance in science subjects—especially physics—he was admitted in 2016 to the School of Electrical and Automation Engineering at Nanjing Normal University, majoring in electrical engineering, and later graduated from Nanjing Normal University. This academic background provided him with a rational and stable foundation.

During his university years, Zhang experienced uncertainty and hesitation regarding his career path. He was not drawn to a repetitive nine-to-five routine and instead felt compelled to explore new challenges. Acting gradually caught his attention. In his view, the profession offers the rare opportunity to experience entirely different lives within just a few months, an aspect he found particularly appealing. Through a series of coincidences, he ultimately decided to enter the acting industry. At first, his parents were not supportive of this choice, but his dedication, progress, and tangible results eventually earned their approval.

In May 2019, Zhang Linghe began filming the investigative web drama Maiden Holmes, playing Prince Pei Zhao—a character defined by elegance, intelligence, and duality. As his first historical role, it required constant shifts between contrasting personalities. When the series aired in August 2020, it marked his formal debut in the public eye and helped him discover a genuine passion for acting.

Later that year, he appeared in the campus romantic comedy The Moment of Meeting Again as Mai Si Chong, a swimming prodigy with no dating experience. His overall performance that year earned him the “New Rising Force of the Year” award at the Fifth Golden Guduo Network Film and Television Festival.

From 2021 onward, Zhang entered a period of rapid growth. Through works such as Faith Makes Great, Perfect and Casual, and Flourish in Time, he explored a wide range of genres, gradually establishing a recognizable screen presence.

The 2022 fantasy drama Love Between Fairy and Devil became a key turning point. His portrayal of Chang Heng, a restrained and morally driven war god, significantly boosted public recognition. That same year, he was selected for the China Movie Channel’s “Rising Stars of the Sea” program, reflecting growing industry acknowledgment.

In 2023, a succession of releases—including My Journey to You, Bright Eyes in the Dark, Tiger and Crane, and Story of Kunning Palace—demonstrated his versatility across historical, contemporary, and suspense-driven narratives, accompanied by multiple year-end honors.

Off screen, Zhang Linghe retains the traits shaped by his engineering education. Once weighing nearly 100 kilograms, he has since adopted a disciplined lifestyle. He enjoys films and video games, particularly science fiction and mystery genres, and has a fondness for hands-on assembly projects. His rational thinking, straightforward manner, and structured expression remain clearly visible beyond the screen.

From an electrical engineering graduate of Nanjing Normal University to a prominent young actor, Zhang Linghe’s transformation is less a sudden leap than a carefully considered transition. The logic and discipline cultivated through his scientific training continue to inform his approach to acting, forming a distinctive and enduring aspect of his on-screen appeal.
