Former TVB actress and Miss Hong Kong winner Shirley Yeung has remained active in recent years by shifting her career focus to mainland China. While work has required her to spend time away from her two children, she is known to prioritize family whenever her schedule allows.

Like many Hong Kong artists working across the border, Yeung now concentrates primarily on livestream e-commerce, with acting projects becoming less frequent. Starting with limited experience in the field, she has gradually adapted to the demands of livestreaming, a transition that some observers view as a pragmatic response to industry realities.

Recently, Yeung appeared in her personal livestream and sang 天命最高 at the request of viewers. The song has regained attention following the release of the film adaptation of 寻秦记, leading some viewers to interpret her song choice as an attempt to align with current trends.

During the broadcast, Yeung also shared that she had taken her children to watch A Step Into the Past in theaters. She noted that the story holds personal significance, as the original television series aired at the beginning of her career, making its return to the big screen feel both nostalgic and surreal.

However, public response to her livestream performance was divided. Some viewers criticized her vocal delivery, describing it as lacking polish and affected by a noticeable accent. Others questioned why her Cantonese performance did not reflect the linguistic strength expected from a Hong Kong–born artist.

Her appearance also sparked debate, with some netizens commenting that her styling appeared outdated or overly casual. In contrast, others argued that her look simply reflected a down-to-earth approach rather than an attempt to maintain a glamorous image.

Speculation regarding changes in her appearance also emerged, though recent footage suggests she has lost considerable weight, possibly due to the physically demanding nature of livestream work.

In previous interviews, Yeung has acknowledged the pressures of livestreaming, explaining that even brief absences can lead to a drop in viewer numbers. Despite ongoing scrutiny, she continues to keep her private life out of the spotlight, choosing not to disclose details about her partner in order to protect her family’s privacy.

As public opinion remains divided, Yeung appears committed to navigating this stage of her career on her own terms.
