Netflix’s upcoming drama “The East Palace” has revealed its first details, drawing attention as part of the platform’s 2026 Korean content slate. On January 21, Netflix introduced the series during its “Next on Netflix 2026 Korea” event held in Seoul, where it was highlighted as one of the year’s notable releases.

Set within a mysterious royal palace shrouded in supernatural phenomena, “The East Palace” follows Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), a man capable of traversing the realm of ghosts, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady who can hear the voices of the dead. Secretly summoned by the King, the two are tasked with uncovering the truth behind a cursed palace and a string of unsettling royal incidents.
Nam Joo Hyuk portrays Gu Cheon, a character who investigates bizarre events within the palace using his ability to slay ghosts with his blade. Existing between the human world and the spirit realm, Gu Cheon is drawn into a web of hidden conspiracies that challenge both his strength and resolve.
Roh Yoon Seo takes on the role of Saeng Gang, a court lady who has long viewed her ability to hear the dead as a lifelong curse. Her rare gift becomes crucial in uncovering the palace’s secrets, forcing her to confront the darkness lurking beneath the grandeur of royal life as she works alongside Gu Cheon.
Cho Seung Woo plays the King, a figure marked by complexity and restraint. While appearing composed and authoritative, he secretly orchestrates the investigation into the palace’s mysteries, with his true intentions gradually unfolding as the story progresses.
According to Netflix, “The East Palace” is scheduled to premiere in the third quarter of this year. With its blend of historical intrigue, supernatural elements, and a strong lead cast, the series has already positioned itself as one of the more anticipated Korean dramas in Netflix’s upcoming lineup.
