SET Taiwan’s Lunar New Year’s Eve special Formosa New Year Countdown opened with a large-scale performance led by Chen Meifeng, joined by Pai Bing-bing, Sunny Yang, Hou Yi-jun, Bai Jia-qi, A-Shiang, Lai Hui-ru, Lanlan, and Aaron Kuo, setting a festive tone for the night.
One of the most anticipated highlights of the show was Chen Meifeng’s first public song-and-dance collaboration with singer Bii. Chen described Bii as not only striking in appearance but also polite, thoughtful, and highly professional behind the scenes. In preparation for the performance, Bii began dance training early and recorded the vocals in advance, an attitude that left a strong impression on her. Chen also shared that while she had always felt pressure about dancing, she was touched to learn that Bii felt just as nervous and even sought additional coaching on his own.
Bii revealed that the performance would be presented as a medley, combining “Apt.,” “Soda Pop,” and the Taiwanese classic “Love Express.” He said it was an honor to be invited to collaborate with Chen again, adding that finishing the performance on this stage truly made the Lunar New Year feel real. Chen also noted that the collaboration went smoothly thanks to the strong commitment shown by both the artists and the production team.
When it came to choreography, Chen admitted that dancing remains a challenge for her. She joked that in her early variety-show days, keeping time and striking poses was often enough, but Bii’s every move naturally exuded star power. Admiring yet feeling the pressure, she even quietly asked the director to give Bii more close-up shots, saying the visuals were simply too good to miss. Bii responded that he gained a lot from working with Chen, especially when performing Taiwanese songs, and found it interesting that certain Korean pronunciations shared similarities with Taiwanese, giving the songs a unique flavor.
The performance also stood out in terms of styling. Chen personally discussed two outfits with designers, tailoring them to match Bii’s image. The first look featured a hip-hop-inspired white ensemble paired with high-end fashion accessories, while the second adopted a Japanese-inspired style combined with fan dance choreography. Chen expressed that continuing to challenge herself on stage and working with a talented team at this stage of her career is something she finds truly fulfilling.
