The television drama Shiawase wa Tabete Nete Mate, led by Sakurai Yuki, has been confirmed to return with a special episode airing this summer. The series is a live-action adaptation of the manga of the same name by Minagi Tori and originally aired last year. In addition to Sakurai, the main cast includes Kaga Mariko and Miyazawa Hio.

The story follows Mugimaki Satoko (played by Sakurai), whose quiet daily life takes on new meaning after a long period of illness. As she adopts a macrobiotic diet to restore her health, Satoko begins to reconnect with herself through food, rest, and routine. Her interactions with neighbors at her boarding house and colleagues at work gradually shape a series of small yet meaningful relationships, allowing her to rediscover happiness in ordinary moments.
The upcoming special episode will feature an original storyline that is not part of the original manga. According to the production team, the episode will maintain the gentle and reflective tone of the series while offering new perspectives on Satoko’s emotional journey, presenting viewers with a standalone narrative that expands the drama’s world beyond its source material.
