The feature film Hako no Naka no Hitsuji has officially announced its release date and is set to premiere on May 29. The project is conceived, written, edited, and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Koreeda Hirokazu, known for his nuanced exploration of family and human relationships.

The film stars Ayase Haruka as Komoto Otone, an architect, and Daigo as Komoto Kensuke, the second-generation president of a construction company. Set in the near future, the story follows the couple as they welcome a humanoid robot into their household and raise it as their son, gradually redefining their understanding of family.
The role of the robot child is played by Kuwaki Rimu, who was selected through an audition process involving more than 200 candidates. His casting plays a central role in conveying the film’s delicate balance between realism and speculative imagination.
By placing an unconventional family structure within a near-future setting, Hako no Naka no Hitsuji approaches themes of technology, emotional connection, and identity with restraint and quiet observation, making it one of the more closely watched releases of the upcoming season.
