The drama centers on themes of a commoner’s rise amid turbulent times, blending political strategy and power struggles. It stars Zhou Jieqiong as the female lead and is directed by Fei Zhenxiang, known for helming Love Like the Galaxy. With its genre positioning and production team, the project initially generated strong expectations.
However, controversy emerged soon after filming began. Some fans expressed concerns that key highlight scenes originally associated with the male lead appeared to have been reassigned during adaptation. Adjustments to character dynamics and romantic storylines also sparked debate. For adaptations, balancing creative reinterpretation with audience expectations is often a sensitive issue.
Additional discussion arose over the casting of online content creator Hou Ben in a supporting role. Certain fans revisited her past online content involving Yang Yang and voiced dissatisfaction.
