The highly anticipated Korean film No Other Choice, directed by Park Chan Wook and starring Lee Byung Hun and Son Ye Jin, has been officially invited to the main competition section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.
Announced on July 22 by the festival’s executive committee, this invitation marks a major milestone, as it will be the first Korean film in the competition in over a decade—since Pieta won the Golden Lion in 2012.
No Other Choice follows the emotional journey of Man Soo (Lee Byung Hun), a once content office worker whose life takes a sharp turn when he’s unexpectedly laid off. Facing pressure to protect his family and their hard-earned home, he sets out on a desperate search for new employment. The film promises a grounded, intimate portrayal of modern struggles within an uncertain world.
Known for combining cinematic artistry with powerful storytelling, Park Chan Wook brings this poignant tale to life after years in development. The film’s selection for Venice’s most prestigious category highlights both its artistic merit and international appeal.
No Other Choice is scheduled for theatrical release in September 2025, shortly after its world premiere in Venice.
