Reports reveal that Xuan-Yuan Sword (《轩辕剑》) is set for a remake. The 2012 version, Xuan-Yuan Sword: Scar of Sky (《轩辕剑之天之痕》), featured a luxurious lineup of Hu Ge, Liu Shishi, Tang Yan, Jiang Jinfu, and Nazha, a cast that significantly boosted the drama’s popularity. This time, however, the new cast seems unlikely to recapture that same level of brilliance.

According to sources, Sun Zhenni will take on the role of Tuo Ba Yuer (originally played by Liu Shishi), while Chen Heyi will play Chen Jingchou (originally portrayed by Jiang Jinfu). As for the roles of Yuwen Tuo, played by Hu Ge, and Xiao Xue, played by Nazha, no actors have been announced yet.
Sun Zhenni’s look in period costume has been praised before—especially her striking red outfit in Till the End of the Moon (《长月烬明》)—but whether she can fully capture Tuo Ba Yuer’s unique aura remains uncertain. Chen Heyi, meanwhile, is relatively less well-known, and audiences are curious whether his acting will live up to the “growth-type male lead” originally embodied by Jiang Jinfu.
Hu Ge’s portrayal of Yuwen Tuo is considered a classic, one that will be especially difficult to surpass. Ultimately, whether this new remake can revive the same xianxia charm and emotional resonance of the original series is still very much a question mark.
