Jun Ji Hyun’s management company has released an official statement in response to reports surrounding the cancellation of a scheduled advertisement in China.
On September 23, media outlets reported that a commercial appearance originally set for September 25 in Seoul had been called off. Speculation quickly followed, linking the cancellation to a controversial line spoken by Jun Ji Hyun’s character in the recent drama Tempest.

In the drama, one line in particular drew attention from Chinese netizens: “Why does China favor war? A nuclear bomb could even fall on the border area.” The comment sparked backlash online, and many believed it may have led to repercussions for the actress, including the cancellation of her advertising engagements in China.
In response, Jun Ji Hyun’s agency, Peach Company, issued a statement to clarify the situation. “The cancellation of the Chinese advertisement was decided before the airing of Tempest,” the agency explained. “It has nothing to do with the drama.”
They further stated, “We communicated with the local agency in China and were told the reports were not true.” The company emphasized that the decision to cancel the advertisement was not politically motivated but rather due to “local circumstances” that led to a postponement and eventual cancellation.
While Tempest continues to spark conversation across platforms, Jun Ji Hyun’s agency appears to be distancing the current controversy from her professional commitments overseas, underscoring that the decision was made prior to the drama’s broadcast.
