Beneath the glamour of the entertainment world, every major decision often comes from countless private conversations with oneself. Today, Miss Hong Kong 2025 runner-up Angela Shi appeared at Sha Tin Racecourse and openly confirmed her new direction — stepping away from acting and redirecting her career toward hosting and financial broadcasting.

For Angela, this shift wasn’t impulsive. It was clarity.
“I genuinely love finance, and I really don’t want to give it up,” she shared. “My heart tells me this is what I’m meant to do. Once I’ve made a decision, I’ll move forward with full determination.”
When asked whether TVB was aware, she admitted with a smile, “Probably not yet. But I did call my manager to ask if I could join TVB Finance Channel. We discussed it, though we’re not sure if it’s possible.”
She also plans to return to studying, believing that stronger professional knowledge will naturally create more opportunities.

As for why she chose not to continue as an actress, she answered with refreshing honesty:
“I’m not pretty enough, and I gain weight easily. To maintain the slim figure expected of actresses, I can only eat 800 calories a day. I just can’t do that. Since I can’t meet that standard, why force myself? I really enjoy food, after all.”
While anchors also care about appearance, she pointed out that the expectations feel more realistic:
“I can be a host at my current size, but not an actress.”

And when others suggested that acting offers many character types, she remained gently firm:
“It’s still difficult. I believe people should develop in areas they’re truly good at. I’m good at finance, and I’m good at talking.”
Fortunately, she has full support from her family:
“As long as I’m not doing anything illegal, they support me.”
Angela’s confidence in her new path is well-founded. She previously interned at Goldman Sachs, later joined Morgan Stanley as an equity options trader, and accumulated five years of experience in the financial industry — all built on top of her impressive Cambridge academic background.
Spotlights may shine brightly, but the light that truly guides our future often comes from honesty and bravery.
Angela’s decision to leave acting isn’t a retreat — it’s her stepping toward a stage where her strengths can shine even more authentically.
