American Express has released its annual list of the top trending travel destinations for 2026, based on member bookings and insights from its network of travel consultants. Among the list, only two U.S. locations made the cut: Las Vegas, Nevada, and the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. While starkly different, both destinations promise travelers unforgettable experiences that blend adventure, scenery, and excitement.

The San Juan Mountains, often called the “Switzerland of America,” feature one of North America’s highest concentrations of peaks exceeding 14,000 feet. The region offers year-round activities, from hut-to-hut hiking and winter skiing to scenic drives and spring wildflower hikes. Fall brings vibrant foliage along historic train routes through mountain towns, and visitors can unwind in the area’s mineral hot springs after outdoor adventures. Luxury resorts like the Madeline Hotel & Residences in Telluride provide refined accommodations for travelers seeking both thrill and comfort.

Las Vegas continues to attract visitors with its unparalleled offerings in entertainment, dining, and nightlife. The city has enhanced its attractions with major hotel renovations and expansions, including a $300 million refurbishment at the MGM Grand, the Venetian’s $1.5 billion remodel introducing new suites and dining options, and the FountaineBleau’s expanded beach club. The city also hosts the Las Vegas Grand Prix, combining Formula 1 racing with the spectacle of the Strip. Yet even casual visitors can enjoy its unique streetscapes, circus acts, and public attractions without a lavish budget.

On the international front, travelers are increasingly drawn to destinations celebrated for culture, cuisine, and natural beauty. Amex highlights the Indian Himalayas, Killarney in Ireland, Marrakech in Morocco, Marbella in Spain, Okinawa in Japan, Panama City in Panama, Papagayo Peninsula in Costa Rica, and St. Julian’s in Malta as top trending destinations for 2026.
