TV Tokyo has officially confirmed a new live-action remake of the drama Otto wo Shakaiteki ni Massatsu Suru Itsutsu no Hoho, now reimagined under the title “Otto wo Shakaiteki ni Massatsu Suru Itsutsu no Hoho Re:venge.” The 2025 version will star Kato Shiho and Iijima Hiroki in the leading roles, marking a fresh reinterpretation of the provocative, socially charged narrative that has captured significant attention in recent years.

The series is based on the manga by Mita Tatami and Upcross, which previously spawned two successful live-action adaptations. The first aired in January 2023 starring Baba Fumika and Nomura Shuhei, followed by a second installment in 2024 featuring Takanashi Rin and Yanagi Shuntaro. Each adaptation explored the intense and often unsettling theme of women seeking ways to socially erase their abusive husbands.

A New Take for 2025

The upcoming 2025 version distinguishes itself as a hybrid remake—not only adapting the manga but also reinterpreting story elements from the earlier TV drama seasons. This new edition expands the universe, introduces updated social perspectives, and delivers an original concluding arc crafted specifically for the “Re:venge” project.

At the center of the story is Okuda Akane (played by Kato Shiho), a housewife trapped in a suffocating marriage marked by psychological degradation and physical abuse inflicted by her husband, Daisuke (played by Iijima Hiroki). Her life takes a drastic turn when she receives a mysterious letter detailing methods to “socially eliminate” Daisuke. Following the cryptic guide, Akane confronts not only others entangled in similar struggles but also the parts of herself long buried beneath fear and resignation.

The narrative aims to dissect domestic violence, societal complicity, and the moral ambiguity of revenge—offering a nuanced exploration of how far one can go to reclaim autonomy.

Broadcast Information

“Otto wo Shakaiteki ni Massatsu Suru Itsutsu no Hoho Re:venge” will air over two consecutive nights, December 17 and 24, on TV Tokyo. The production promises a darker, sharper perspective while continuing the franchise’s tradition of social commentary.
