Actor Cha Seo Won recently shared his thoughts on tvN’s upcoming drama “Spring Fever,” opening up about his first experience in a romantic comedy and the similarities he sees between himself and his character. “Spring Fever” is a rom-com that follows the blossoming love between Yoon Bom (Lee Joo Bin), an emotionally distant high school teacher, and Seon Jae Gyu (Ahn Bo Hyun), a warm and passionate man who gradually melts her guarded heart.

In the series, Cha Seo Won takes on the role of Choi Yi Joon, a flawless elite lawyer. Once Seon Jae Gyu’s closest friend, Yi Joon now stands as his rival. Although he appears perfect on the surface, his life begins to unravel after reconnecting with Jae Gyu, a figure from his past. As Jae Gyu grows closer to Yoon Bom, Yi Joon becomes entangled in a complex love triangle that adds emotional tension to the story.

Explaining why he chose the project, Cha Seo Won revealed that since his debut, he had never attempted a romantic comedy, especially one with strong comedic elements. Wanting to challenge himself, he felt an immediate connection to the script and decided to accept the role as if it were fate.

Describing his character, Cha Seo Won noted that while Choi Yi Joon carries a cold, polished image as an elite lawyer, he also has an awkward and unexpectedly warm side. He shared that creating a version of Yi Joon that felt entirely his own was an enjoyable and meaningful process.

From a performance perspective, Cha Seo Won emphasized the importance of balance. He explained that while he steps forward when the story calls for it, he is equally mindful of stepping back when Seon Jae Gyu, Yoon Bom, or other characters need to take center stage. He added that both he and his character value basic manners and try to approach others with a smile.

When asked to describe Choi Yi Joon through keywords, Cha Seo Won chose “mediator,” “prickly comedy,” and “romance.” He explained that Yi Joon serves as a bridge not only between Jae Gyu and Bom, but also between Se Jin (Lee Jae In) and Han Gyeol (Cho Jun Young). Though somewhat sharp on the outside, the character brings plenty of comedic moments and embodies a romantic spirit that prioritizes loyalty and relationships over money.

Concluding the interview, Cha Seo Won described “Spring Fever” as a warm and comforting drama, well suited for the season when winter begins to fade. He expressed hope that viewers would enjoy the blend of humor and heartfelt emotion in every episode and show their continued interest and support.

“Spring Fever” is scheduled to premiere on January 5, 2026, at 8:50 p.m. KST.
