The wuxia period drama Sword Comes, starring Wu Lei, has officially revealed its main cast, drawing significant attention from both audiences and industry observers. Adapted from a popular web novel that has also been made into an animated series, the project has been closely followed since its announcement. Filming began in November last year and is currently ongoing.

For Wu Lei, Sword Comes marks a notable return to historical drama, four years after his appearance in Love Like the Galaxy in 2022. His participation is widely regarded as an important milestone in his acting career. In the series, Wu Lei portrays Chen Ping’an, the central character whose personal growth and inner journey form the backbone of the narrative.
According to the newly released casting details, the female lead will be played by Wanda Margraff (Li Wanda), who made her screen debut in the 2019 film Ip Man 4: The Finale. Her role in Sword Comes is seen as a key step in her television career. Joining her is Chen Duling, whose popularity rose sharply following her performance in the historical drama Yan Hui Shi: Lady of Honor. She will take on the role of the sword saintess He Xiaoliang, a casting choice that has been warmly received by fans of the original novel for its strong alignment with the character’s image.

Li Meng, who gained recognition for portraying a villainous princess in The Double, is also part of the ensemble, adding further depth to the lineup. Meanwhile, acclaimed Taiwanese actor Chang Chen has confirmed his participation, marking his return to costume drama after Love and Destiny in 2019. In Sword Comes, Chang Chen will portray Chen Ping’an’s mentor, a role that has already generated high expectations regarding its portrayal.
Overall, the casting of Sword Comes reflects a deliberate balance between emerging talents and established actors, with an emphasis on both character suitability and performance strength. As production continues, the drama’s visual execution and storytelling quality are expected to remain under close scrutiny in the lead-up to its eventual release.
