Thailand’s film industry has gained renewed momentum with the launch of the feature film project “Kathoey Thai Ban: Virus Cleanses the World.” Singer and entertainer Takkatan Chollada has teamed up with acclaimed northeastern Thai filmmaker Bo Likit Ruangnong to bring the project to the big screen, beginning with a traditional blessing ceremony held in Maha Sarakham Province.

The ceremony took place at 9:00 a.m. at the city’s revered pillar shrine, where the production team and cast gathered to seek auspicious blessings ahead of filming. The project marks an expansion from content that previously gained viral attention online, now reimagined as a full-scale theatrical release.
The cast brings together several familiar faces from the “Kathoey Thai Ban” universe, including Ja Ja, Opal, Bogus Superstar, and Tangmo, who is not a professional actress. Their reunion under this film project has raised expectations for a more ambitious and polished adaptation, with the production team hinting that additional characters and cast members will be revealed in due course.

Beyond comedy, the film aims to portray the lifestyle and emotional bonds of rural northeastern Thailand, while presenting themes of gender diversity in a culturally grounded and creative manner. Director Bo Likit is known for storytelling that resonates with both urban and local audiences, and this project continues that approach by highlighting regional identity alongside entertainment.

Toward the end of the ceremony, images of incense sticks with clearly visible numbers were noted by attendees, sparking some public interest. The production has not offered interpretation of these details, encouraging viewers to exercise personal judgment. Filming is scheduled to begin soon across northeastern Thailand, with the movie slated for nationwide theatrical release.
