The film Ying Jiu Wang Xing Ren (working title), starring popular Chinese actor Cheng Yi, has been reported to receive a theatrical release in China on February 14, coinciding with the Lunar New Year holiday period. After years of delay, the project is finally set to reach audiences nationwide.

The story centers on a former police dog trainer who has retired and now runs a pet shop. Accompanied by his Labrador retriever, the protagonist becomes involved in a series of mysterious dog disappearances and embarks on a dangerous rescue mission. Combining elements of adventure and suspense, the film draws attention to issues such as animal abuse and dog trafficking, while highlighting the emotional bond between humans and animals.
Produced in 2017, the film was originally scheduled for release in 2018 but was postponed indefinitely due to various circumstances. Its upcoming theatrical debut is therefore seen by many viewers as a long-awaited return.
Following the release announcement, online reactions in China reflected widespread enthusiasm, with audiences expressing anticipation for both the film’s subject matter and Cheng Yi’s performance. At the same time, discussions also extended to the actor’s future projects, including the rumored summer release of the historical drama Liang Jing Shi Wu Ri (original title) and the yet-to-be-released series Ying Xiong Zhi (original title), underscoring continued interest in his career trajectory.
