The highly anticipated drama Perfect Crown, starring IU and Byeon Woo Seok, is officially gearing up for its premiere. Recently, the production team released a sneak peek of the script reading session, offering the first look at the cast’s chemistry.

Set in an alternate universe where modern-day Korea is a constitutional monarchy, Perfect Crown tells the love story of Sung Hee Joo (played by IU), a chaebol heiress who has everything except status, and Grand Prince Yi An (played by Byeon Woo Seok), a royal who has nothing despite being the son of the king.
On January 29, the drama unveiled footage from the script reading. Director Park Joon Hwa, writer Yoo Ji Won, and main cast members including IU, Byeon Woo Seok, Noh Sang Hyun, and Gong Seung Yeon were all present, marking their first official gathering.

At the event, IU shared her determination, saying, “I’ll work hard so that Perfect Crown can take over the drama scene in 2026.” Byeon Woo Seok added, “I’ll work hard to shake up the world in 2026,” while Noh Sang Hyun jokingly remarked, “We’ll make it so that we shake up the space.” Gong Seung Yeon also said she would do her best to make the set an enjoyable one.
In terms of performance, IU portrayed the bold chaebol heiress Sung Hee Joo with a confident gaze and tone of voice. In a scene where Sung Hee Joo approaches Yi An with a proposal for a contract marriage, IU lightened the mood on set with playful gestures and a wink.
Byeon Woo Seok, on the other hand, used his low and calm voice to convey the quiet elegance of Grand Prince Yi An, a character who has status but nothing else. After meeting Sung Hee Joo, Yi An begins to experience emotional changes, which Byeon subtly expressed through shifts in his tone.
As contract marriage partners, IU and Byeon Woo Seok showed a charming and natural rhythm in their interactions, carefully timing their eye contact and emotional buildup, further raising anticipation for their on-screen chemistry.
Noh Sang Hyun plays Prime Minister Min Jung Woo, bringing extra energy to the set. He showed easygoing synergy with IU’s Sung Hee Joo, while also presenting a reliable friendship dynamic with Byeon Woo Seok’s Yi An.
Gong Seung Yeon takes on the role of Yoon Yi Rang, a woman born with “the destiny of a queen,” adding a different layer of tension to the story. In a scene depicting her emotions after meeting Yi An, she embodied the character through her elegant voice, gaze, and movements.
Furthermore, supporting cast members including Lee Yeon, Yoo Su Bin, Lee Jae Won, Chae Seo An, and Jo Seung Yeon also stood out during the reading, adding depth to the overall cast lineup.
Perfect Crown is scheduled to premiere in April.
