The Japanese film 90 meters has announced its theme song, “0.2mm,” written by Motoki Ohmori of Mrs. GREEN APPLE. The song adds an additional emotional layer to the film, which stars Santoki Soma alongside Kanno Miho and is scheduled for release on March 27.

Directed and written by Nakagawa Shun, 90 meters is a semi-autobiographical work drawn from the filmmaker’s own experiences caring for his mother. Known for his sensitive storytelling in Kakushigoto, Nakagawa once again turns his focus to intimate family relationships, approaching heavy themes with restraint and realism rather than heightened drama.

The story follows Fujimura Yu, a high school senior standing at a crucial crossroads as he prepares to decide his future. His plans are abruptly disrupted when he learns that his mother, Misaki, has been diagnosed with a serious illness and is gradually losing her ability to move. Confronted with the reality of her condition, Yu must navigate the pressures of youth while shouldering emotional responsibilities far beyond his years.

The supporting cast includes Minami Kotona, Tanaka Taketo, and Nanase Nishino, who together contribute to a layered portrayal of family and everyday life under strain. The theme song “0.2mm,” subtle in tone yet emotionally persistent, mirrors the film’s focus on small moments that accumulate into profound change.

With its personal origins and understated narrative, 90 meters aims to offer a quiet reflection on growth, care, and the fragile distance between holding on and letting go when it opens in theaters on March 27.
