The historical film “The King’s Warden,” starring Park Ji Hoon and Yoo Hae Jin, has made a strong impression at the Korean box office since its release on February 4, holding the No. 1 spot for five consecutive days.

According to data released by the Korean Film Council on February 9, the film reached a cumulative total of 1,118,508 moviegoers as of February 8, surpassing the one-million mark in just five days.

“The King’s Warden” is the first Korean film to focus on the story of King Danjong, the sixth monarch of the Joseon Dynasty. Portrayed by Park Ji Hoon, Danjong ascended the throne at the age of 12, only to be later dethroned by his uncle, Grand Prince Suyang, and exiled to Cheongnyeongpo in Gangwon Province, where his life met a tragic end.

Set in 1457, the film follows Eom Heung Do, a village chief played by Yoo Hae Jin, who voluntarily turns his village into an exile site in an effort to secure its future. Through this decision, he forms an unexpected bond with the young, dethroned king.

With its early box office success and historical narrative, “The King’s Warden” continues to draw attention from both audiences and industry observers.
