The Unique Sound of the Birch Tree

The birch tree holds a distinctive place in both ecology and culture, renowned for the unique sound its bark produces when burnt. This characteristic has inspired its Korean name, linking the birch not only to nature but also to local traditions. The birch’s multifaceted contributions to Korean heritage make it a subject worthy of exploration.

Habitat and Distribution

Thriving predominantly in colder regions, the birch tree is often found in the scenic Baekdusan Mountain and the beautiful Gaema Plateau. These magnificent areas provide an ideal environment for birch trees, leading to the formation of picturesque forests that capture the essence of Korea’s natural beauty. Known as the “nobles of the forest,” these trees contribute to the region’s biodiversity, offering habitat and sustenance for various species.

Exploring the Birch Forest Trails

Visitors can find the birch forests approximately 3.2 kilometers from the nearby parking area. The area boasts several well-marked trails that cater to different levels of hikers. Trail durations range from 30 minutes for a quick excursion to 1 hour and 50 minutes for those looking to immerse themselves in the scenery. Each step taken on these trails offers a unique opportunity to observe the birch trees up close and appreciate their elegant stature amidst the backdrop of breathtaking landscapes.
