Introduction to Phraya Nakhon Cave

Phraya Nakhon Cave, ranked eighth among notable caves globally, is a limestone cave located within Sam Roi Yot National Park in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. This hidden gem is just a 45-minute drive from the resort city of Hua Hin, making it an accessible yet secluded destination for travelers seeking to explore off-the-beaten-path attractions.

The Journey to Phraya Nakhon Cave

Reaching Phraya Nakhon Cave is not for the faint-hearted. The journey involves a challenging trek, either by hiking through a jungle path or taking a boat ride followed by a steep climb. While the trek is demanding, the remoteness adds an element of adventure and contributes to the cave’s charm. The sense of achievement upon arrival is well worth the effort.

The Historical Significance

Discovered 200 years ago by Chao Phraya Nakhon Sri Thammarat, the cave carries significant historical importance. One of the most notable features within the cave is the small temple, known as the Khuha Kharuehat Pavilion. This pavilion was built during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and can be seen bathed in sunlight during certain times of the day, creating a magical and serene atmosphere.

Visitor Tips

For those planning to visit Phraya Nakhon Cave, it is advisable to go early in the morning to avoid the heat and to witness the morning light illuminating the temple. Proper hiking shoes, water, and a good level of physical fitness are recommended for the trek. As it is somewhat off the tourist track, expect a quieter and more peaceful experience compared to other more crowded attractions.
