Overview of ‘Lost You Forever 2’ Finale
Now that ‘Lost You Forever 2’ has ended, let’s take a quick look at the wins and ‘losses’ in this emotion-laden story. In a nutshell, everyone got what they wanted the most in the end, but at what cost? Cangxuan firmly sat on the throne, finally letting Xiao Yao go. Unlike the novel where Cangxuan masterminds the killing of Tushan Jing, the culprit in the series becomes Chenrong Xinyue. The dramatic confrontation scene between Xiao Yao and Cangxuan occurs only in an imaginary scene. Tushan Jing is ‘killed’ and falls into the sea but is rescued by Xiang Liu. Upon his return, Jing gets the girl and marries Xiao Yao.
Character Fates and Sacrifices
Chishui Fenglong died taking an arrow meant for Cangxuan. Before his death, he pleaded for Cangxuan to spare his sister Xinyue for her wrongdoings. The attempt on Cangxuan’s life caused an irreparable rift between Xiao Yao and Xiang Liu. Xiang Liu’s conclusion is the most bittersweet; despite his sacrifices for Xiao Yao and his ideals, he fought valiantly in battle until the end, knowing it would lead to his death. Tan Jianci’s portrayal of Xiang Liu was brilliant, as he fully immersed himself in the role, showcasing the character’s depth and emotion.
Fan Critique and Ratings
As with any popular drama, fans have differing opinions. There is noticeable in-fighting among the cast’s fans. Many are a bit salty about Season 2 compared to the first season, which was generally praised. Tushan Jing’s fans were particularly upset about his reduced role and criticized the poorly executed scene of him falling into the water. Conversely, Tan Jianci’s character received more screen time, which some fans appreciated while others did not. Yang Zi’s role as Xiao Yao also faced criticism for lack of character development. Complaints ranged from poorly done special effects to accusations of characters being ‘shortchanged.’ Despite the drama, the sequel performed well in the ratings. Yang Zi made history as the first person on Tencent to break past 200 million views for her character Xiao Yao, and Deng Wei was the first male actor in 2024 to break past 100 million on the same platform for his role as Tushan Jing. Additionally, the show had multiple stars, including Yang Zi, Deng Wei, Tan Jianci, and Zhang Wanyi, whose characters broke 9 on Vlinkage ratings on the same day at one point.
