Introduction to “Ashura no Gotoku”

Netflix has announced its exclusive distribution of the much-anticipated drama series, “Ashura no Gotoku,” premiering on January 9, 2025. This seven-episode series, directed, adapted, and edited by the renowned filmmaker Koreeda Hirokazu, promises to captivate audiences with its engaging storyline and a stellar cast.

 

Storyline Overview

Set against the backdrop of 1979, “Ashura no Gotoku” unfolds the intricate lives of four sisters as their hidden conflicts and long-buried secrets come to light. The narrative takes a compelling turn when their elderly father introduces a new lover into the family dynamic. This emotional drama explores themes of love, loss, and familial bonds, set in a time of societal change.

Meet the Cast

The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Miyazawa Rie takes on the role of Tsunako, the eldest sister who navigates life as a florist after losing her husband. Ono Machiko portrays Makiko, the devoted full-time housewife living with her office worker husband and children. Aoi Yu plays Takiko, the third sister who works as a librarian and struggles with romantic relationships. Lastly, Hirose Suzu embodies Sakiko, the youngest sister working as a waitress and entangled in a relationship with an ambitious boxer. Each actress brings depth and complexity to their characters, promising a gripping viewing experience.
