Major Schedule Changes in Dramas and Variety Shows

Amid escalating political unrest in South Korea, significant changes to TV programming are being announced. Major broadcasters, including MBC and JTBC, have adjusted their schedules to accommodate extended news coverage regarding the political situation. Popular variety shows such as “Music Core,” “Home Alone” (“I Live Alone”), and “How Do You Play?” will not air this week, making way for special news reports and updates.

Impact on Popular Dramas

The impact on South Korean drama series has also been notable. MBC’s “When the Phone Rings,” originally set to air its 5th and 6th episodes on December 6 and 7, has postponed these episodes due to the news broadcasts. Fans will now have to wait until December 13 for episode 5 to air. SBS confirmed that while episode 9 of “The Fiery Priest 2” will air as planned, episode 10 scheduled for December 7 is postponed. Additionally, SBS’s music show “Inkigayo” will not air on December 8.

The Political Context Behind Programming Changes

These urgent programming changes stem from a series of dramatic political events, including President Yoon Suk Yeol’s declaration of martial law, which was later retracted. With the political situation still unfolding and opposition parties pushing for impeachment, the news remains a priority for broadcasting networks. JTBC’s “The Tale of Lady Ok” has also shifted its airing schedule, with episode 3 now set to air on December 8 at 10:30 p.m. KST. Understanding these context-driven changes is essential for fans eager to follow their favorite programs amidst the political backdrop.
