Lee Min-ho, widely recognized for his role as Gu Jun-pyo in the 2009 drama Boys Over Flowers, recently appeared on the show You Quiz on the Block alongside Yoo Jae-suk and Jo Se-ho. While traveling to Gangwon Province with fellow actor Jung Il-woo, their vehicle collided with a drunk driver, resulting in a tragic loss of life.
Reflections on Recovery
Recounting the incident, Min-ho shared, “The accident made major news in Gangwon Province because it was fatal. I spent almost a year confined to the hospital, unable to do anything but lie down.” The accident left him with serious injuries, including a torn cartilage and broken thighbone, leading to extensive recovery. He candidly expressed the emotional turmoil he faced, going through phases of denial, anger, depression, and eventual acceptance following the harrowing event.
Finding Purpose Through Pain
Min-ho also reflected on his pre-debut days, revealing he turned down multiple casting offers from SM Entertainment due to his perceived lack of talent in singing and dancing. He humorously recounted running away from talent scouts, showcasing his reluctance to enter the entertainment industry. Yet, his determination to alleviate his family’s financial struggles drove him to audition for the role of Gu Jun-pyo, adopting the character’s iconic hairstyle as a demonstration of his commitment.
