Experience Kyoto in October
October is my personal favorite month to travel to Japan, particularly to the enchanting city of Kyoto. The reasons are numerous, but they mainly revolve around the exceptionally pleasant weather. Visitors can expect mild temperatures and low humidity, making outdoor exploration a delight. The city is also graced with bluebird days that are perfect for discovering the endless invaluable treasures Kyoto has to offer.
Striking Fall Foliage and Fewer Crowds
As October progresses, late in the month, visitors can witness a spectacular transformation in the landscape. The stunning fall foliage begins to showcase its brilliant colors, offering a breathtaking backdrop for photos and tranquil walks. What’s more, October sees fewer crowds compared to the peak fall color season in November. This makes it an ideal time for travelers who wish to explore Kyoto’s more than 2,000 shrines and temples without the hustle and bustle.
Delicious Seasonal Cuisine
Another compelling reason to visit Kyoto in October is the chance to enjoy dishes made with fresh, local, seasonal ingredients. Local specialties such as chestnuts, mushrooms, and various vegetables reach their peak during this time. Food lovers will have a feast while wandering through the vibrant streets and visiting excellent restaurants across the city.
Traveling to Kyoto is made easy with a convenient high-speed train from Tokyo. Accommodations in the city range from traditional to modern, with unique options like the Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu, which occupies a refurbished 1933 schoolhouse, or the newly opened Six Senses Kyoto. October truly offers a magical experience in one of Japan’s most beloved cities.
