Introduction to Viking’s New China Cruises

In an exciting development for travel enthusiasts, Viking is dedicating a ship to China for the first time, offering three new cruise and land tours in 2024. This comes as China simplifies its visa process for American travelers, making it easier for them to explore the country’s rich cultural heritage.

New Itineraries and Features

The new series of 10- to 20-day trips will include stops in some of China’s most popular cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. These tours will be operated from September to November on the Viking Yi Dun, a ship formerly known as the Viking Sun. The Viking Yi Dun features 465 staterooms, accommodating up to 930 guests, and is equipped with a Nordic spa, several restaurants, an outdoor gym and yoga area, and an infinity pool.

Unique Experiences and Destinations

Beyond major cities, the itineraries will offer a domestic sailing along China’s coast and visits to unique sites like Gulangyu Island in Xiamen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Travelers will also have the rare opportunity to meet a Tibetan family at their home, adding a personal touch to their cultural experience.

Simplified Visa Process for American Travelers

The new voyages coincide with China’s recent simplification of its visa process for American travelers. U.S. visitors are no longer required to submit proof of a round-trip air ticket, hotel reservation, itinerary, or an invitation letter to apply for a tourist visa. However, a visa is still necessary for entry, although travelers transiting through China can stay visa-free for up to six days.

Special Offers and Booking Information

To celebrate the launch of these new voyages, Viking is offering free international airfare and $25 deposits on all-inclusive river, ocean, and expedition voyages, including the new China itineraries. To take advantage of these offers, reservations must be made by January 31. For more information, visit vikingcruises.com
