On September 29, the drama 宴遇永安 — Feast of Yong’an confirmed its premiere date. The series will stream exclusively on Tencent Video starting October 9, starring Wang Yinglu and Li Yunrui. Blending gourmet culture with a sweet romance, the show creates a light, humorous atmosphere that seems designed for younger audiences, particularly women.

The story follows a modern heiress from a family of restaurateurs (played by Wang Yinglu) who accidentally travels back to Tang Dynasty’s Yong’an City. With dishes like Chinese crepes and hotpot as her bridge, she develops a relationship with Lin Yan, the city magistrate (played by Li Yunrui). From the trailer, the series intertwines rich culinary imagery with a “bickering-then-romance” formula. If both aspects are amplified, it could bring extra charm to the viewing experience.

Both leads are rising young actors with growing popularity, though their acting still leaves room for refinement, especially in expressions. Since sweet romance dramas hinge on palpable chemistry, whether Wang Yinglu and Li Yunrui generate a convincing CP dynamic will be crucial.

In essence, Feast of Yong’an sticks to the familiar trope of “a powerful man falls in love with me.” Lin Yan’s role as a high-ranking official caters to the genre’s fantasy appeal. While far from realistic, the drama’s aim is clear: to deliver an idealized, entertaining romance within a period setting, offering viewers lighthearted escapism.
