The upcoming drama “Tokei-kan no Satsujin,” starring Oku Tomoya and Aoki Munetaka, has unveiled its first teaser, marking a significant step toward the release of the second screen adaptation from Ayatsuji Yukito’s celebrated “Kan” mystery universe. The original novel, published in September 1991, is known for its refined foreshadowing, psychological precision, and tightly constructed narrative, earning recognition from major Japanese mystery circles.

Set in 1989 on the outskirts of Kamakura, the story centers on the enigmatic Clock Mansion. After completing his postgraduate studies, Kawaminami Takaaki joins a magazine as an editor and travels with a senior colleague to conduct an interview at the secluded estate. During a séance meant to contact the spirit of a girl once associated with the mansion, the medium abruptly disappears, and the visitors find themselves entangled in a chain of disturbing incidents. At the same time, newly debuted mystery writer Shimada Kiyoshi, who publishes under the pen name Shishiya Kadomi, learns of the planned interview and chooses to visit the mansion independently. There, he begins to investigate the lingering riddle concealed within the poem “The Silent Goddess,” left behind by the former owner.

The release of the teaser has reignited interest in the signature elements of the “Kan” series, including its atmospheric settings and intricate locked-room storytelling. The production aims to retain the cold, restrained tone of the original work while enhancing its visual identity, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in a world where architecture, memory and crime intersect. “Tokei-kan no Satsujin” is scheduled for release in February 2026, continuing the series’ revival for a new generation of mystery enthusiasts.
