The television drama Matori to Kyoken, starring Nishihata Daigo of Naniwa Danshi, has unveiled its latest trailer along with additional supporting cast members. Adapted from the manga by Tajima Takashi and Masashi, the series is a live-action crime action drama that delves into the dark realities of drug addiction and trafficking. Hosoda Yoshihiko and Mukai Osamu take on pivotal roles that anchor the story’s central conflict.

The narrative begins with a shocking incident at a club in Roppongi, Tokyo, where a customer overdoses on cocaine and fatally stabs a staff member. This case becomes the starting point for a deeper exploration of the underworld of narcotics and the law enforcement agencies tasked with confronting it. Nishihata plays Umezawa Kyonosuke, a former child actor who has fallen from fame and now survives as a drug dealer. Hosoda portrays Kurosaki Toru, a narcotics enforcement officer known as a “Matori,” whose investigation is driven by an intense and unsettling obsession with drugs.

As police raid Umezawa’s apartment during a routine drug preparation, Umezawa narrowly escapes death but is captured by Kurosaki, who offers him freedom in exchange for working as an informant. Almost immediately afterward, he is arrested again by Katsuragi Akito, played by Mukai Osamu, an officer from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s Drug and Firearms Control Division. Ordered by both sides to spy for them, Umezawa is forced into a dangerous double life, acting as a double agent caught between rival authorities.

The newly announced cast includes Morita Kokoro, Kujo Jo, Motomiya Yasukaze, Kimura Yuichi, Shoji Yusuke, Yamaya Kasumi, Yamashita Eiku of ONE N’ ONLY, Hirano Kinari, Fukami Motoki, and Cho Tamiyasu, expanding the drama’s ensemble and narrative depth. It has also been confirmed that the opening theme song, “blur,” will be performed by Orange Spiny Crab.

Matori to Kyoken is scheduled to premiere on January 20, airing weekly on Tuesday nights on MBS and TBS. Through its intense storytelling and morally complex characters, the drama aims to shed light on the harsh and often unseen consequences of drug-related crime.
