The Caribbean has been named the world’s most preferred beach destination for 2026, according to a new study released by travel booking platform Beach.com. The region has officially surpassed the U.S. East Coast as the top choice for American travelers seeking sun, sand, and seaside relaxation.
The study found that more than one in three Americans ranked the Caribbean as their number one beach destination for future travel, signaling a notable shift in vacation preferences. Rather than staying closer to home, travelers are increasingly drawn to destinations that offer a broader sense of escape, cultural diversity, and resort-style experiences.

When choosing a beach vacation, American travelers continue to rely heavily on recommendations from family and friends. However, digital inspiration is playing a growing role. Social media, along with travel websites and blogs, has become a key discovery tool, with Americans now 23 percent more likely than last year to find new coastal destinations through social platforms. Visual storytelling and firsthand travel content are reshaping how beach destinations are perceived and selected.
In the overall ranking, U.S. East Coast beaches placed second, followed by the West Coast. The Pacific Islands and the U.S. Gulf Coast rounded out the top five. While these destinations remain popular, they were collectively outpaced by the Caribbean’s appeal.
The findings are based on a Beach.com survey conducted in November 2024, which gathered responses from more than 1,000 Americans regarding their travel plans for 2026.
Tourism statistics further support the Caribbean’s growing popularity. According to the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), the region welcomed over 34 million international visitors in 2024, with travelers from the United States accounting for approximately 16.8 million of that total. CTO Secretary-General Dona Regis-Prosper has previously highlighted the region’s resilience amid global economic challenges, emphasizing the importance of strategic investment, regional cooperation, and sustainable tourism practices.
Accessibility also plays a key role in the Caribbean’s continued growth. Its proximity to the contiguous United States allows for relatively short travel times, with numerous direct flights available. Major airlines continue to expand routes to destinations such as Grand Cayman, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Anguilla, making the region increasingly convenient for American travelers.
From Aruba’s near-perfect year-round weather to the Bahamas’ mix of expansive resorts and secluded islands, from Grand Cayman’s iconic white sand beaches to the understated luxury of St. Barts, the Caribbean offers a wide spectrum of beach experiences. This diversity has helped solidify its position as the world’s most desirable beach region heading into 2026.
