The new television drama “Mi Kakunin Nikki” has officially been announced, starring Maeda Oshiro alongside comedian Nishida Koki of Lalande. The series is scheduled to premiere on January 10 on TV Asahi’s late-night drama slot “Doradora Daisakusen,” airing every Saturday at 12:30 a.m.

Blending comedy with elements of the supernatural, “Mi Kakunin Nikki” tells the story of a young man tasked with finding “someone” on behalf of his father. What begins as an unusual request soon takes an unexpected turn when that “someone” turns out not to be human, but an unidentified creature whose existence defies common sense.
Maeda Oshiro plays Eita, the estranged son of a powerful yakuza boss. Having been distant from his father for many years, Eita reluctantly visits the family mansion after learning that his father is critically ill. There, he hears a final wish: his father wants to see a certain person before he dies. To Eita’s disbelief, that person is a two-meter-tall Bigfoot-like creature covered in soft, shaggy fur.
Thrown into confusion, Eita finds himself entering the strange, endearing, and occasionally troublesome world of “unidentified beings”—creatures who quietly coexist within the harsh realities of human society. Through his interactions with them, the series unfolds a quirky yet heartfelt narrative that balances absurd humor with moments of emotional warmth. Nishida Koki’s performance plays a key role in shaping the drama’s distinctive comedic tone.
The supporting cast includes Miura Kira, Mori Yusaku, Mizuno Tomonori, Akira 100%, Fukutome Mitsuho, Urai Norihiro, and Masaaki Hirai of Dansei Buranko, adding further depth and variety to the ensemble.
Set in a creative late-night time slot, “Mi Kakunin Nikki” uses fantasy and humor to explore themes of loneliness, family bonds, and the desire to be understood. With its unconventional premise and gentle storytelling, the drama stands out as a uniquely charming addition to the winter television lineup.
