Netflix’s upcoming original series Beauty in the Beast (working title) has revealed photos from its first script reading session, marking the official start of production. Kim Min Ju, Lomon, and Moon Sang Min attended the reading, drawing early attention to the youthful fantasy romance.

Beauty in the Beast is a campus-based fantasy romance that follows Min Soo, a girl who hides the secret of her ability to transform into a wolf, and the events that unfold after she meets her college senior Hae Jun and a free-spirited werewolf boy named Do Ha. The series is directed by Jin Hyuk, known for The Legend of the Blue Sea and The Tale of Lady Ok, with the script written by Gin Han Sai, whose previous works include Netflix’s Extracurricular and Glitch.
The story begins when Min Soo enters college, a turning point in her carefully controlled life. As a werewolf, she has spent years suppressing her emotions and instincts, having been strictly trained since childhood to blend into society. College represents both freedom and danger for her—a new environment that challenges everything she has learned to restrain.

Kim Min Ju takes on the role of Ha Min Soo, a young woman burdened by an ability that must never be discovered. Despite a lifetime of self-control, Min Soo remains curious about the world, dreaming of an ordinary life filled with simple experiences and personal choices. Her inner conflict between repression and longing forms the emotional core of the series.
Moon Sang Min portrays Hae Jun, Min Soo’s college senior. At first glance, his stern expression and sharp gaze make him seem intimidating, but beneath that exterior lies a gentle personality that has earned him the nickname “big puppy.” Usually indifferent to others, Hae Jun finds himself repeatedly drawn to Min Soo, whose strange behavior around him sparks an unexplainable curiosity.
Lomon stars as Do Ha, a werewolf who lives freely and acts without hesitation when he wants something. In contrast to Min Soo’s restrained nature, Do Ha finds her self-suppression both frustrating and irresistibly compelling, creating a dynamic tension between the two characters.
Based on the first script reading, Beauty in the Beast appears set to explore themes of identity, emotional restraint, and self-acceptance through a blend of fantasy and youthful romance. As production moves forward, the series is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s notable upcoming entries in the youth fantasy genre.
