The historical mystery web drama “Tang Strange Cases” (also known as “Chang’an Transformation”) has officially announced its premiere date. The series will be released on February 3, 2026, via Tencent Video. The production is led by chief producers Guo Xuguang, Liu Mohao, and He Jinyan, with Sheng Zunpeng serving as supervising producer. The drama is directed by Chen Wenyong and written by Zhang Zhaozhe and Wang Xiaoli. The main cast includes Zhang Yijie, Guan Yue, and Hou Chengyue, with special appearances by He Gang, Wu Chunyi, Zhang Mingming, and Shang Na.

Set during the late reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, the drama takes place in Chang’an, the empire’s bustling capital. Against the backdrop of prosperity and cultural flourishing, the story explores a series of mysterious and unsettling criminal cases, revealing the hidden tensions beneath the surface of a golden age.

The narrative centers on Gu Qianling, a deputy minister of the Dali Temple, the judicial authority responsible for handling major criminal cases. As Gu Qianling investigates complex and supernatural-tinged crimes, he gradually uncovers deeper truths concealed within each case. He is joined by forensic examiner Duan Chao and guard Yuhua, forming an investigative trio that works together to solve increasingly dangerous and enigmatic incidents.

The drama features several major cases, including the Ghost Performer Case, the Ghost Marriage Case, the Paper Wife Case, and the Living Dead Case. Each storyline blends folklore-inspired elements with social realities, creating suspenseful narratives while examining the motivations and conflicts behind each crime. As the investigations progress, the relationships and emotional bonds among the main characters are also tested.

From a creative perspective, “Tang Strange Cases” aims to merge traditional historical storytelling with suspense and investigative elements. By structuring the narrative around multiple interconnected cases, the series seeks to build a layered story that combines historical atmosphere with psychological tension. Beyond solving crimes, the drama also highlights character development and explores the moral complexities that emerge beneath the façade of a prosperous era.

As the premiere date approaches, attention is growing regarding how the series will distinguish itself within the increasingly competitive historical mystery genre.
